We are pleased to announce the return of an in-person STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Expo for the 2023-2024 school year!!!!
This year's Expo will be hosted at AYR Motor Centre (105 Connell Park Rd., Woodstock, NB E7M 1M5), on Tuesday, February 27, from 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. While it will be an in-person event, we will also have a virtual component for students who are unable to attend.With the new skills-based Science curriculum in Grades 3-10, inquiry projects like the STEAM Expo can be a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills and thinking processes!

The term ‘STEAM’ includes (but is not limited to) Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. In other words, all learning is connected when you try to solve a problem!

That’s up to you as both are great ways of showcasing your project. However, if your project involves animals, hazardous chemicals or open flames, we recommend that you bring a recording, photos, or substitute materials.

For the District STEAM Expo, you are welcome to work in partners or groups. However, if you want to compete at regionals, a project is limited to two (2) participants (partners). They must be partners from the same school to advance.

For the District STEAM Expo, you are welcome to work with a partner from any school. However, if you want to compete at regionals a project is limited to two (2) participants (partners). They must be from the same school.

There is no limit; the more the merrier! In the past we had a limit on how many per school but now we welcome as many as possible. There is a limit, however, on how many proceed to regionals.
Overview
STEAM Expo is a science fair for the twenty-first century. It includes sciences, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. It provides students in kindergarten to grade 12 with an extracurricular opportunity to pursue their STEAM interests. Through creative research, design, building, and problem solving skills, students produce an abundance of genuinely intriguing and informative projects and presentations covering the different STEAM components.
STEAM Expo also provides an opportunity for related industry practitioners, businesses, university faculties, and professional organizations in the Fredericton area to share their expertise and passions with the community.
Kindergarten to Grade 4
The elementary school component of STEAM Expo is based on a non-competitive philosophy, which encourages student participation, sharing, appreciation for diversity, and inclusion. The event is a fun, engaging, and inspiring opportunity for our younger students to share their enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Participants receive a certificate, a water bottle, a medal, and T-shirt for their efforts.
Grade 5 to Grade 12
Participants from grades 5 to 12 will have their poster-based projects evaluated by a panel of expert judges from throughout the Fredericton and area science, technology, engineering and math community. All projects will be on display throughout the day of the Expo and open for the public viewing. Participants will receive a certificate, thermo-pencil and T-shirt for their efforts. Cash prizes are also awarded to the best projects across a variety of categories. Winners in various categories and grade divisions may move on to the North-West New Brunswick Regional Science Fair, where they could earn an opportunity to represent New Brunswick at the Canada-Wide Virtual Science Fair.
