It’s been serving the community since 1962.
But at the end of this school year, northside Fredericton’s McAdam Avenue School will close and be torn down to make way for a new, larger school.
So, to celebrate 61 years of memories at a school many students, staff, and faculty describe as being like family, McAdam Avenue School is inviting current and former students, staff, faculty, and families to an open house/reunion there on Wednesday, June 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There will be raffle draws for McAdam Avenue School-branded items, refreshments, and an opportunity to tour the school one last time.
“What I’ll miss most is the sense of community and really looking out for one another,” said McAdam Avenue Principal Christie Jordan. “The involvement from parents and families is really enormous here at McAdam Avenue, even though we’re a small school.”
After this school year, McAdam Avenue School’s 80 students will transfer to nearby Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School for the next two years, until the new school is completed on the old McAdam Avenue site. Once the new school is completed in 2025, Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School will close and students from both closed schools will attend the new school.
“My fondest memories are of the children, who were a wonderful bunch,” said Diana McCabe, McAdam Avenue School’s principal for the 1998-1999 school year, of her time at the school. “We had a very active community of parents [and] PSSC. We all worked together.”
