Students at Barker’s Point Elementary School are helping to preserve a piece of New Brunswick’s musical heritage through a new children’s book by local author and musician Mike Bravener.

Published by Monster House Publishing, The Lumberjack’s Alphabet is based on a traditional 1800s folk song once sung in lumber camps. Eleven Barker’s Point students lent their voices to a special recording that accompanies the book. Check it out here: Lumberjack’s Alphabet – YouTube

Though some of the students involved in the project have since moved on to middle school, they reunited on October 9 for a special school assembly, where Bravener and local fiddler Don Rigley joined them to perform the song and share the story behind it.
