Subject Coordinator for Social Studies, Fine Arts, and Enrichment Beth Christie addresses the ASD-W 2024-2025 Council of Student Leaders at Kingswood Lodge on Oct. 29.

The third iteration of the Council of Student Leaders got back to work at Fredericton’s Kingswood Lodge on Oct. 29, choosing officers and setting a direction for the rest of the school year.

The Council, which started in the 2022-2023 school year, is an advisory body of students who research issues of concern within the student body, then report those issues to district senior leadership. The issue of concern during its debut year was diversity and inclusion, while last year’s issue was student experiences of discrimination.

This year, students considered district transportation issues and the roll of career guidance for students before choosing the issue of academic support for newcomers to Canada. Their Council peers chose Rowan Seahra (Fredericton High School) President, Addison Pollard (Chipman Forest Avenue School) Vice-President, and Autumn Thompson (Hartland Community School) Secretary.
