FREDERICTON—The provincial government announced a $187.4 million investment in public school infrastructure-improvement projects provincewide during the 2024-2025 school year designed to accommodate New Brunswick’s ever-increasing student population.
The announcement Wednesday included information regarding the following Anglophone School District West (ASD-W) schools:
• A replacement for George Street Middle School.
• A new school to replace both Forest Hill and Liverpool Street elementary schools.
• Funding has been announced for the purchase of Leo Hayes High School, which currently exists as a public-private partnership.
• Funding will continue for two new ASD-W schools already under construction on the City of Fredericton’s northside, for both construction and purchase of equipment:
o A new K-5 school on Cuffman Street; this will ease enrollment pressures at Gibson-Neill Memorial Elementary School.
o A new K-5 school on McAdam Avenue; this will replace McAdam Avenue School and Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School.
• Funding will continue for the construction of a new, K-8 school in the Carleton North catchment area to replace 4 aging schools: Florenceville Elementary School, Florenceville Middle School, Bristol Elementary School, and Bath Community School.
• Funding will continue for the ventilation program projects, with a focus on five schools for the next round:
o Nackawic Senior High School
o Harold Peterson Middle School
o Donald Fraser Memorial School
o Harvey Elementary School
o Chipman Elementary School
• Funding for capital improvement projects in 24 of our schools was awarded; These projects amount $4.794 million in total.
• The replacement of Devon Middle School has been added to the Stable Departmental Infrastructure Priorities list. The Oromocto K-8 rationalization of schools and the OHS mid-life upgrade remain on this list.
